Networking Images
I've met up with my friend Karin yesterday. We've known each other for quite some time but while I was still living in the Lowlands she decided to move to London at some point, came back to the Lowlands after a few years and then moved back again to London. I moved a few times myself over the years and because of that I lost contact with her. Lucky me I registered a while ago with a website similar to Friends Reunited and found out that she basically lived 'around the corner' from me in London for two years before she decided to move to Surrey. I asked her to come along to the annual Picture Buyers' Fair organised by the British Association of Picture Libraries and Agencies. It's a good opportunity to do some networking and see Maurice at work *LOL*. Although I didn't expect much it turned out to be a really awesome day.
I talked with some very interesting people which reminds me that I still have to visit a website of a photographer who had some amazing pictures on display. I promised to email him because we ended up having a discussion about web design and how most websites look like crap and so unprofessional. When I mentioned this I was trying to be modest and didn't use those exact words but he bluntly corrected me and we had a good laugh about it. His pictures are the kind that will keep you intrigued for hours, staring at them. Pictures of forgotten ancient places, specialising in the fantastic and the supernatural. Eight books have been published by him and he had numerous exhibitions worldwide. Some of his pictures are part of famous collections in London, Paris and California. I will ask him if I have permission to use one of his pictures here.
I also met a very nice Dutch woman: while Karin and I were discussing something, she overheard the conversation and we ended up having lunch together and talked for at least half an hour. She lives in Scotland, is a photographer and has her own business. She was extremely interested in my photography and offered to represent me. So if all goes well my pictures will be archived and for sale soon. This is the third professional photographer who shows interest in my pictures which is great. I will also be represented by another company who asked me a while ago if I was interested in putting my pictures up for sale. I haven't done anything about it yet: I have about 4000 on archive and will have to make a selection first which is going to take quite some time, but it will be fun and I'm really looking forward to this!
In the meantime I'm still busy designing the second phase of a website for a new company that needs branding. I'm not allowed to write anything but it's fun and quite a challenge and I'll be working on this over the weekend. I've been looking at cameras for some time already and always said to myself that the one I currently use is fine but if this is going to be a success it won't take much to convince myself to upgrade to a better camera... Just the thought of all this is extremely uplifting and the fact that people seem to appreciate my images on a professional level is the best compliment I could ever get! I'm eager to take the next step! *hehe*

Congrats Tess!! Your pictures are beautiful! and I am glad that professinal photographers are willing to represent you :) Way to go girl!! :)
Wen: Thank you so much! :)
I have to sort out what to put online though which is going to take some time but yes I'm extremely happy that both companies are willing to represent me and have my pictures in their picture library... It's exciting to know that your picture might be used for ads or brochures or websites etc.
Btw, tonight Hero will be broadcasted and I'm so looking forward to this! Finally I get to see it, I will let you know what I think of it but the preview looked amazing already!
I hope that you enjoyed "Hero" :) Let me know what you think about it :) Have a wonderful week,
Wen: Hero was good but I have to admit that I think it's missing an interesting story line. The images are amazing so is the use of colours but to me it lacks something and I had a problem staying focused because of this. I can't really explain what it was but for instance House of Flying Daggers which is of the same director was more intriguing to me but perhaps I'm too picky ;)
Oh...yes, house of flying daggers is great...I liked the fact that the story was seen from different perspectives...as you say, the colours and images are fantastic...I have just watched another one with Zhang Ziyi, "The banquet". I didn't like it that much to be honest, have you watched it?
Wen: no, can't say I have ;)
But it's very likely that I will some day although I've read some negative reviews. Some people think it's boring, why didn't you like it?
Hey Tess, Congrats on getting your photos out there. It is so difficult to make this first step and get your photos published. I am struggling to get the ball rolling but it is not so simple. What camera are you aiming to? are you biased to a specific make ?
Oh, yes, I also think it is very boring and I hated the ending...I didn't like Zhang Ziyi's performance so much either...Too bloody as well...
Hi Reuben, thank you :)
If you like I could introduce you? But it's aimed at the stock photography market so I'm not sure if you'd be interested, if so let me know!
I've always used either a Nikon or a Canon and tend to go for the latter. I've asked so many people how they feel about theirs so it's a bit of a tough choice to me because they're all enthusiastic... and what is keeping me now is this choice and the money...
Decisions, decisions ;)
That would be interesting. I guess I would have to build some sort of library.
I am a canon user and have been a canon user for quite a long time. I believe canon give me the right feeling both through the photos and when using the camera.
It strongly depends on what you will be focusing on I mean canon have a tendency of softening images however with Photoshop this can be easily solved. Canon is a little lighter in weight however I did not see the later versions of Nikon which I guess have been improved radically.
Wen: I'm sorry to hear you didn't like it either. Hmmm, makes me think twice now whether I'd like to see it or not: even if the visuals are great if it's a boring movie the visuals won't make up for it I'm afraid... We'll see... Zhang Ziyi: what I don't like is the fact that they tend to 'Westernise' her and she just accepts it, guess money talks once again, a shame though...
Reuben: all you would have to do for now is put 30 of your best photos on a CD, they should be a minimum of A4 format... Please send me an email if you'd like to hear more about the details etc.
Thank you for telling me about your experience, I tend to choose Canon and I'm glad to hear this camera is lighter in weight, I have a bad shoulder to take into consideration [along with the camera specs] so that would be a plus ;)
My focus would be mainly macro photography. I will do some more research in a few days; thanks so much for your input, I appreciate it!
