Precious II: My New G5
I did it...
I bought a new computer tonight. I had to anyway because of this discount arrangement that would run out on the first of March. So we went over to the Mac store and I ordered the G5. A. got the bug as well: we decided not to buy the Mac Mini just before we left but once we were at the store he was looking at this cute thingy and he could not resist. It will become our little kitchen feature. It will be sitting on the breakfast bar with a small flatscreen so we can use it for internet, music, looking up recipes, info etc. I thought it would be a bit decadent but what the heck hey?... It's still his birthday gift that I promised him half a year ago so he can do with it whatever he likes.
Anyway, I bought my machine but I couldn't bring it home because some part was missing and needed to be installed first so I have to be patient for another two weeks. I don't mind though because I don't really have time to explore it anyway. It's okay like this. Since I will get some money back from the tax people I bought the second option instead of the first that I intended to buy. I'm happy that I did, it is more money but in the end better value.
Here's what I got:
Dual-core 2.3GHz PowerPC G5 processor<
1.15GHz frontside bus per processor
1MB L2 cache per core
2x 1GB memory (533MHz DDR2 SDRAM)
250GB Serial ATA hard drive
16x SuperDrive (double-layer)
Three open PCI-Express expansion slots
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 with 256MB GDDR SDRAM
And here's what it looks like:
