Open Screen Night
Vanja called me last night to invite us for an evening out since her movie had been chosen by the organisation of 'Open Screen' as one of the 17 movies that was going to be shown on the big screen Friday evening. I wasn't feeling very well so I told her I would give it some thought and call her back to tell her what we would do. I discussed it with A. and he was thrilled to get out and see some arty festival. We also wanted to support Vanja with her film making, so being there would be great for all of us!
I called her this afternoon to tell her that we would be there in the evening. Since I had to work all day I was home at about 18.30. I needed to hurry a bit because the show would start at 19.30 and it was all the way in the east of town. I was ready at 19.00. A. and I took a taxi to Kriterion, the cinema where the event would take place. I was still feeling a bit ill but I really wanted to be there. We arrived at 19.10, right on time.
The show was excellent, some movies were amazing, others plain crap. I only really liked about 3 movies, one by Vanja, one by another student from the academy; a guy from Israel and one from an Irish guy who ended up as the winner. No wonder; his stuff was sponsored by some companies and it looked so professional compared to the other stuff which was made by students. I don't think he was a student though *grin* His name was o'Leary. The perfect movie compared to the other ones. There was no doubt he would win the competition...
It was a really nice evening. After the event we agreed on going to the Irish bar with Vanja. A. and I walked all the way down there [which took us 30 minutes] because we felt like walking together and talking. Walking thru the city at night can be a very relaxing experience! Vanja stayed at Kriterion for a while talking to other students and a colleague of mine called Bert. She would come to the bar on her bicycle so she didn't have to leave straight away since it would take us a while to get to the bar.
When we arrived, she was already there though. We spent the rest of the night talking about the movies that we saw earlier. Vanja invited us to come along and go to the other Irish bar but we were both really tired so we went home. Walked home that is, another 25 minutes... I think we had enough exercise tonight... It has been an excellent evening and we really enjoyed ourselves! So for now, off to bed, sleep well!

Open Screen is a new podium for independent filmmakers and an initiative of A Bunch of People Productions and English Casting. Open Screen gives them the opportunity to show their work on the big screen and to get immediate feedback from film lovers and colleagues. Open Screen aims to bring together creatives with other people in the business.
Open Screen is held at the Kriterion Film Theater, every three months and hosted by sit-down comedian Chip Bray. We're becoming a regular venue at the Kriterion after the first three Open Screen Nights turned out to be very successful.
