Aberfeldy - Kirkmichael
We had breakfast at 08.30 because we wanted to sleep in a bit. I had the same as yesterday which was good: scrambled eggs, two sausages and a tomato. After breakfast we went to our rooms to get ready for today's trip. We drove off at about 10.15 into the direction of Aberfeldy where the Dewar distillery was situated where we wanted to take a whisky tour. My legs have been really painful after climbing the munro and today I could hardly walk, everything was completely stiff and painful, it was worse than yesterday! I did the whole whisky tour though but lucky me it didn't take that long and it was far more interesting than the Talisker distillery which was also quite nice but we got too much information that day compared to the Aberfeldy distillery.

When we got back to the visitors center there was a short movie to watch. I skipped it though because my legs were just too painful. The guide took me to another part of the center close to the exit of the small cinema where the start of the exhibition was. I could sit down for a while and wait for the movie to end and meet up again with the others. It was a very interesting exhibition and I had a quick look around while I was sitting there. I had quite some time to take pictures and there weren't much people so I could also take time in taking them. After eight minutes they came out of that room into the exhibition area where I was waiting for them.

We then had a look around. I found this web cam thing mounted to the wall where you could make a small movie and send it to yourself thru email. A. and I couldn't resist so we made a silly movie, just the two of us and I've sent it home. No idea if it is there since I do not have internet connection over here to check. It was quite funny though! We left the exhibition and went into the visitors center again where we had a small whisky. While enjoying our whisky we did some nose tests where you had to identify nine different scents. I had the correct answer to most of them, just missed two. I bought a silly key ring with a tiny whisky bottle attached to it; for my collection...

The next thing we wanted to visit were the Highland Games. Before we left Frank and Inge, Frank printed out a list for us of local places where we could watch the Games. A village called Kirkmichael seemed to be the closest near the distillery so we went there. It was quite a remote place but after a while we found it. We had to park the cars all the way in the back of a large meadow where the Games took place. The weather so far was good, a bit cold but still sunny and every now and then a few drops. We watched the Games for about two hours and I must admit I really enjoyed that even though it was a very local thing it was nice to watch it for real since I've never seen it before. There's not much to tell so I'd rather show some pictures here instead...

We then went back into the direction of Callander. On our way home we visited Rob Roy's grave. I couldn't be bothered to get out of the car though. Not because I wasn't interested but because I had seen it already and once is really enough. I felt the same about the distilleries; I've heard the story three times now and I really don't have to visit another one. The Aberfeldy distillery was different though, it was more personal, not too much information and they let it up to you how much you would like to explore or see instead of giving you just way too much info at once. We drove off to Callander again to have dinner there at the bar where we also had lunch on Wednesday. It was all a bit disappointing though, food-wise that is. But what do you expect after a meal like the one we had yesterday...

We went back to the Lodge and had drinks there till after midnight talking to the owners which was fun. C., I., J. and S. had to take an early flight back home the next day so we said goodbye to them that same night when we all went up to our rooms. They had to get up at 07.00 or so and A. and I wanted to sleep in a bit since we didn't have to leave yet. Each of us was a bit wasted and tired too. It has been four really cool days and each of us enjoyed it! We all had a great time together and it was a bit of a shame that it was already over... Time flies when you're having fun!
